Sunnyside Doula Collective

I am also a founding member of the Sunnyside Doula Collective. The collective has been my community since I began my doula journey, and is a group of exceptionally dedicated birth and postpartum folks whom I occasionally partner with, exchange backup support with, and learn from. I couldn’t do this work without my village!

The presence of a doula lowers the rates of c-sections, shortens labor, decreases the need for medical interventions, and increases your overall feeling of control, happiness, and satisfaction with your birth experience.

***I occasionally offer sliding scale fees and discounts help combat the stark inequity in healthcare for BIPOC populations, who need our services the most, and often have the least access to them.

Equity in Birth

The US has a history that is deeply rooted in racial injustice, and often, its presence is felt the most starkly within healthcare, and especially maternal health. Nationally, Black mothers die at three to four times the rate of their white counterparts, and in New York - a staggering eight times the rate. Blind studies show time and time again that patients of color are given inferior care, which directly impacts them for generations.

While I am deeply aware of my inability to truly comprehend the actual compound impact that inequity has had on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ persons, I pledge here to do my part in listening, learning, respecting, and working toward change. With time in the field, I have also come to strive for balance in my advocacy work; where my presence, knowledge and experience improves you outcomes, but I never speak for you. I work hard to try to amplify YOUR voice in my work.
